Dear Piero:

I was pleased to learn that the special district convention in Follonica was successful. Your district was in a difficult situation, but after discussions a settlement was reached for the good of the organization. Not only is this settlement important for the Italy-San Marino District but also for Kiwanis International.

Unfortunately, statements have been made by various Kiwanians, mostly in the heat of the moment, which should never have been said. For example, the comments in the Kiwanis Club of Rome’s newsletter La Laterna should never have been published, in my opinion. Such statements only created mistrust and conflict in the district.

Regarding the 2006 International Convention in Rome, the Kiwanis International Conventions and Meetings Department will plan the event, as we do every year. Steve Siemens, 2005-06 International President, has nominated Nicolo Russo as chairman of the convention’s host committee, which will represent Kiwanis International locally. Steve will nominate other committee members later, with assistance from Nicolo.

As I told you during the European convention, I can’t believe how much has been accomplished by the Italy-San Marino District during your year in very difficult circumstances. Your leadership has turned the situation around for the good of Kiwanis. I am proud to have you on my leadership team this year, and you have earned the thanks of Kiwanis International for everything you have done.

Ho avuto molto piacere di apprendere che la convention straordinaria del distretto tenutasi a Follonica è stata un successo. Il Tuo distretto versava in una situazione difficile ma dopo varie discussioni si è riusciti a trovare una soluzione per il bene di tutta l’organizzazione. Questa decisione è importante non soltanto per il distretto Italia – San Marino ma anche per l’intero Kiwanis International.

Sfortunatamente alcune prese di posizione di alcuni kiwaniani, per lo più adottate nei momenti più concitati, non sarebbero mai dovute essere state espresse. Ad esempio, i commenti letti sul giornale La Lanterna del Kiwanis Club di Roma non avrebbero dovuto essere mai stati pubblicati, secondo la mia opinione. Tali prese di posizione, infatti, hanno semplicemente creato dissapori e conflitti all’interno del Distretto.

Per quanto riguarda la convention internazionale che si terrà a Roma nel 2006, sarà il dipartimento meetings e convention del Kiwanis International a pianificare l’evento, come accade ogni anno. Steve Siemens, presidente internazionale 2005-06 ha nominato Nicolò Russo quale chairman del comitato ospitante per la convention, il quale quindi rappresenterà il Kiwanis International a livello locale. Steve nominerà in seguito altri membri del comitato con l’assistenza di Nicolò.

Come già ti ho detto in occasione della convention europea, non riesco ancora a credere quanto lavoro è stato compiuto dal distretto Italia – San Marino durante quest’anno costellato di circostanze così difficili. La tua leadership ha condotto in porto la situazione per il bene del Kiwanis. Sono fiero di averti avuto nel mio team di comando quest’anno, e tu hai sicuramente guadagnato la gratitudine del Kiwanis International per tutto quello che hai fatto.

Dear Bob,

I thank you for the beautiful words that you have wanted to send me.

This year has been difficult for the Italy - San Marino District but, by now, everything is properly resolved by following the purest and thrilling ideal of friendship, of solidarity and of service that are proper of all the Italian members which, from this experience, they have gone out more convinced and strengthened than ever in their mission to help the least fortunate ones.

I have to tell you however that I would not have been able to resolve the situation if I had not validly been helped by all of my lieutenants and by all the components of my board that have harshly worked so that the matter could be resolved.

Above all - and in indistinct way - to them goes my gratitude and the gratitude of all the kiwanians of this district.

Without their precious collaboration, in fact, it would not have been possible to reach that positive result which has given back to the district the dignity that has always deserved.

I am fierce and proud to have served during this year by their side.

Caro Bob,

Ti ringrazio per le belle parole che hai voluto inviarmi.

Quest’anno è stato difficile per il Distretto Italia San Marino ma, ormai, tutto si è risolto nel migliore dei modi e secondo i più puri ed esaltanti ideali di Amicizia, di Solidarietà e di Servizio che sono propri di tutti i Kiwaniani Italiani che, da questa esperienza, sono usciti più convinti e rafforzati che mai nella loro missione di aiutare i meno fortunati.

Decvo dirTi, però, che non avrei potuto risolvere la situazione se non fossi stato validamente aiutato da tutti i miei Luogotenenti e da tutti i componenti il mio Board che hanno lavorato duramente affinchè la questione si risolvesse.

Soprattutto a loro, ed in modo indistinto, va la gratitudine mia e di tutti i Kiwaniani del Distretto.

Senza la loro preziosissima collaborazione, infatti, non sarebbe stato possibile raggiungere quel positivo risultato che ha ridato al Distretto la dignità che si è sempre meritato.

Sono fiero ed orgoglioso di aver servito durante quest’anno al loro fianco.
